EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State University Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) celebrated the grand openings of its Northern Illinois branches today with ribbon-cutting ceremonies in Algonquin and McHenry. The celebrations recognize MSUFCU’s commitment to serving Northern Illinois communities, following its acquisition of Algonquin State Bank and McHenry Savings Bank in 2024. The Credit Union now operates five full-service branches in the area, offering personalized service, local expertise, and financial solutions to community members and businesses.
“MSUFCU has long supported members beyond Michigan through our digital services,” said April Clobes, MSUFCU President and CEO. “With a local presence in Northern Illinois, we’re better positioned to provide personalized financial tools and trusted guidance to help individuals and businesses build financial security and achieve their goals. Our focus is on expanding access to savings, loans, home financing, business services, and financial education to support strong, thriving communities.”
In addition to offering personalized financial support, the Credit Union is focused on creating long-term value through accessible products, trusted guidance, and financial education. Many branch locations will also serve as hubs for community events, local partnerships, and collaboration.
During the grand openings, MSUFCU presented donations of $10,000 to Veterans Path to Hope of McHenry and $10,000 for Lakeside Legacy Foundation/The Dole and 4th Fridays Art Event of Algonquin.
Veterans Path to Hope was founded in 1996 as a transitional living service (TLS Veterans) by a Vietnam War combat veteran and licensed counselor. Since 2001, the organization has owned and operated New Horizons, a transitional living program in Hebron, Illinois, offering 20 homeless veterans a chance to rebuild their lives. Participants in its services have found employment, reconnected with their communities, and rejoined their families.
The Dole is host to the Lakeside Legacy Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization with a mission to preserve and protect the Dole Mansion and lakeside property for community use. The Dole Mansion is a Victorian-era Italianate residence constructed in 1865. The Dole’s mission is to preserve the historic mansion and surrounding property by creating a go-to community destination, delivering high-quality cornerstone artistic and cultural events, and supporting local nonprofit organizations.
Presented by Nancy Merkling Productions, 4th Fridays Art Event hosts a monthly activity with various art galleries and live music at The Dole Mansion. To date, it has hosted more than 116 events made possible by committed volunteers who believe in keeping the arts alive and thriving in the community.
“Opening a new branch is a commitment to becoming a true partner in the community,” said Arianna Ridderbusch, Vice President of Community Impact at MSUFCU. “We are proud to support organizations like Veterans Path to Hope, which gives a fresh start to our nation’s heroes, and The Dole, which preserves local history while hosting vibrant events like the 4th Fridays Art Event. These partnerships reflect a core belief that a strong community is built on both financial well-being and a foundation of compassion and creativity.”
MSUFCU also partnered with local vendors SweetPeas Emporium and Locker’s Flowers for the McHenry event, and Sweets by Kash and Town and Country Gardens for the Algonquin opening.
