Newland Payment Technology Achieves Key Milestone in the French Market with GIE Cartes Bancaires FRV6.3.1 Certification

Approval gives banks, acquirers and payment providers a faster route to deploying modern payment infrastructure in France
Paris, France. 10 September 2026: Newland Payment Technology (NPT), a leading global provider of payment terminals and technology solutions, has been awarded approval by France’s domestic card payment scheme, Groupement des Cartes Bancaires CB (GIE CB), for the standalone payment application powering its Android payment terminal portfolio in France.
The application has been developed in line with the FRV6.3.1 standard published by FrenchSys, the central standardisation body and subsidiary of GIE CB.
France’s payment market is among the most demanding in Europe, with high standards for security and technical performance. Achieving FRV6.3.1 certification confirms that Newland meets those rigorous requirements while delivering modern Android payment platforms that are enriched with multimedia features, creating more interactive experiences across the digital and physical worlds.
Alan Moss, General Manager, Europe at Newland, commented: “The French market is changing fast. Demand for contactless, mobile and secure multi-scheme acceptance is driving more operators toward Android-based smart POS platforms, while payment acceptance is becoming increasingly shaped by local requirements and evolving compliance demands. As a result, providers are placing growing value on technology partners that can make deployment easier, accelerate rollout and support infrastructure throughout its lifecycle.
“We are proud to have secured this new certification which strengthens Newland’s position as a key payments partner in France, and forms part of our broader programme of development tailored specifically to local market needs”.
FRV6.3.1 marks a significant update to the FRV6 standard. The latest specifications simplify contractual requirements for merchants operating in a multi-scheme environment – spanning Cartes Bancaires, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, UnionPay and Discover – while introducing new services and an optimised communication protocol with acquirers (CB2A 1.6.3) designed to support faster, more frictionless payments.
This major approval forms part of Newland’s ongoing development programme tailored specifically to the French market. Notably, it incorporates accessibility standards (FrenchSys Bulletin 3v2.1) for people with disabilities, as well as auxiliary payment services quasi-cash, pre-authorisation).
It further demonstrates Newland’s ability to support modern payment capabilities such as PIN Online for contactless payments above €50, digital and optional receipt management, and enhanced fraud prevention features that align with evolving market and consumer expectations.
For banks, acquirers, ISOs and payment providers, the approval means Android payment terminals built to the latest French standards can now be deployed faster, reducing the time and complexity typically involved in bringing new payment solutions to market in France. For merchants, it means faster, more flexible checkout experiences that remain fully aligned with current French payment standards.
The FRV6.3.1 approval follows extensive laboratory testing and software kernel evaluation conducted by ELITT, a laboratory and subsidiary of CB Group. The process verifies the interaction between the terminal, payment chips and acquirers’ network protocols, helping ensure that approved devices meet the requirements for secure, reliable and interoperability card acceptance in France.
Payment acceptance is becoming increasingly shaped by local requirements, multiple payment schemes and evolving compliance demands. This latest certification reinforces Newland’s position as a payments technology partner, helping customers build, deploy and evolve payment infrastructure across modern, multi-market environments through its offering of Android payment terminals and cloud-based solutions. It marks another milestone in the company’s continued expansion across Europe.
