Lubbock, Texas Community Votes to Support Local Nonprofits
EL PASO, Texas – July 23, 2026 – GECU and the GECU Foundation announced the winners of the inaugural Community Vote for Impact initiative – Guadalupe-Parkway Neighborhood Center and Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Southwest each received a $10,000 donation, one from GECU, and the other from the GECU Foundation. In tandem with the Lubbock 4th on Broadway Celebration, GECU invited Lubbock, Texas community members to vote for their favorite local nonprofit and help direct thousands of dollars to support their work.
“Hearing from those in the heart of the community and responding to their needs is exactly what the Community Vote for Impact is meant to do,” said Emmeline Garcia, Executive Director of the GECU Foundation. “The inaugural vote received strong community participation, and we are excited to see the impact these funds will have moving forward. Supporting our community is an important part of our mission, and we cannot wait to further grow our support in the future."
Everyone was a winner, as the remaining six participating nonprofits were each awarded a $2,000 donation:
The Community Vote for Impact initiative was created to reflect GECU’s belief that strong communities are built from the inside out. Through the vote, GECU hears community needs firsthand and directs funds where they matter most. GECU’s philosophy behind the initiative is simple: tell us who is doing great things in the local community, and we will help them do more of it.
