On Friday, July 28 – Sunday, July 30, 2023, CUBuild held its third annual Build-a-Thon for the Symitar Community, in Dallas, Texas. Over 61 credit union professionals attended Build-a-Thon to participate in building solutions for the industry in a cooperative setting. The premise of CUBuild is to spark innovation, cultivate learning, foster development, solve real problems, grow skills, and expand capabilities.

CUBuild yielded 9 repositories, 10-minute pitches per team, solutions for savings, card management, loan projections, actionable alerts, and youth accounts. AI technologies were utilized, along with 1,098,880 lines of code written, 14 languages were used, and 36.5 working hours per team.
CUTEK currently holds two seats on the CUBuild committee of Vice Chair and Logistics. In addition, CUTEK also sponsors the Mission Focus category which includes a cash prize of $250 per participant and swag. Similarly, CUTEK also sponsors and presents the Grand Prize category which includes $500 per participant and swag given to each winning team member. Over $15,000 in cash and prizes were awarded. Prizes are awarded by judges and are based on overall scoring.
At CUBuild 2023, CUTEK sent four consultants and developer participants that competed alongside various credit union professionals that comprised other teams. We are proud to announce that Programmer/Analyst, CUTEK employee Lisa Floyd and her team, the CULambs, won in the Mission Focus category with their winning idea Qwirk, an innovative loan repayment and cross-sell tool.
As we look to the future, we’re eager to continue empowering and working alongside professionals from every credit union level to build solutions together. We look forward to competing, sponsoring, and presenting awards at the next CUBuild that will take place in the summer 2024.
