Hampshire, UK - 17th August 2026: A new study by global tech strategists Juniper Research has found that the global remittance market is forecast to reach $634.5 billion in 2030; growing 9.6% from $578.9 billion in 2026. This represents a slowdown from the previous five years, when remittances grew 19%; driven by the post-COVID rebound.

This deceleration reflects migrants’ income and sending capacity falling due to weak GDP growth and high inflation in originating economies. As such, remittance senders will be searching for ways to make their money go further; putting pressure on providers to reduce prices and improve users’ cross-border payments experiences.

What Does this Plateau Mean for Providers?

The cross-border payments market is already highly competitive, with no single non-bank player holding over 1% market share. As users become increasingly price-sensitive, existing payments providers must compete on transaction fees, transfer speeds, and the flexibility to deliver the payment into the recipient’s choice of account.

Lorien Carter, Senior Research Analyst at Juniper Research, comments: “Interoperability has key differentiating potential. In practice, this involves building direct connections to local real-time settlement rails and end points such as mobile money and digital wallet accounts, which lowers fees and improves settlement times.”

Implementing blockchain infrastructure could deliver further improvements by acting as a settlement layer that bypasses traditional banking systems. This makes the transaction essentially borderless, resulting in a negligible on-chain cost and immediate settlement. For example, MoneyGram and Revolut are both investing in embedding stablecoin wallets into their cross-border payments platforms; laying the foundations for interoperability with digital assets.

The new market research suite offers the most comprehensive assessment of the cross-border payment infrastructure market to date; providing insightful market analysis and forecasts of 20,100 datapoints of countries over a four-year period. In addition to the Competitor Leaderboard, it includes detailed evaluation of current and future market opportunities.
