RALEIGH, N.C. (September 14, 2026) – Coastal Credit Union partnered with the NC-Durham Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) to build 60 beds for children in need during a volunteer event at its Raleigh headquarters, helping ensure local children have a safe and comfortable place to sleep.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing beds to children ages 3 to 17 who lack a proper place to sleep, addressing the issue of “child bedlessness” across the United States and beyond.

As a part of SHP’s Bunks Across America event, a week-long community impact initiative connecting volunteers across North America to build and deliver beds, Coastal hosted a bed-building event at its Raleigh headquarters. The goal was to build 50 beds, contributing to the nationwide goal of constructing 12,000 beds during the weeklong campaign.

Coastal employees exceeded expectations, volunteering their time to build a total of 60 beds for children in need.

"Having a bed to sleep in is something many of us take for granted,” said Emily Nail, VP of Cooperative Strategies and Executive Director of the Coastal Credit Union Foundation. “We're proud to partner with Sleep in Heavenly Peace on an effort that makes a meaningful difference for local children and families, and we're grateful to everyone who helped make the event a success."

The build brought together 68 volunteers, including 46 Coastal employees and 22 Sleep in Heavenly Peace volunteers, who worked side by side to support local children and families.

No child should have to sleep on the floor. Across the region, many children experience nightly sleep insecurity because they lack a proper bed. Research shows that having a safe and comfortable place to sleep can improve a child's health, well-being, and ability to focus and succeed both at home and in school.

The 2026 Bunks Across America campaign marked the initiative’s eighth year and set its most ambitious goal yet: engaging 15,000 volunteers across 250 chapters to build or deliver 12,000 beds for children in need. The campaign brings communities together to address a fundamental need while creating lasting impact for families.
