AmeriCU Credit Union Members Donate Nearly 500 Pounds of Food to Local Food Banks

ROME, NY – OCTOBER 7, 2026: AmeriCU Credit Union's annual Shred Days once again brought members together to protect themselves from identity theft while giving back to their communities.
Throughout the summer and fall, members visited Shred Day events across AmeriCU's financial centers to safely dispose of sensitive documents. Attendees were also encouraged to support local food pantries by bringing nonperishable food items.
Thanks to the generosity of members, nearly 500 pounds of food was collected and many also chose to make monetary donations to help individuals and families facing food insecurity. Donations benefited The Country Pantry, King Ferry Food Pantry, CNY Food Bank, and the Regional Food Bank, helping extend the impact of Shred Days beyond identity protection and into the communities AmeriCU serves.
"Our shred days are a great example of how we can pair practical services for our members with meaningful support for the communities we serve," said Vanessa Szwejbka, AVP of Community Relations and Executive Director AmeriCU Charitable Foundation at AmeriCU Credit Union. "By encouraging members to bring donations for their local food banks, we created a simple but powerful way to protect personal information while also giving back to neighbors in need."
By combining secure document disposal with charitable giving opportunities, the credit union continues to provide meaningful ways for members to make a positive impact close to home. "We are grateful to everyone who participated in this year's events," added Szwejbka. "The response demonstrates the generosity of our members and the strength of the communities we serve."
